11-08-2024

According to the official exam guide, the "Interactive Writing" section is a dynamic question type within the Duolingo English Test (DET) that involves the following steps:

1. Instructions: This question type starts with a prompt that asks candidates to write a response to a given topic or question. The initial response is followed by a second phase where candidates are asked to write a further response based on their initial answer.

2. Subscores: The skills assessed in this question type include Production, as it involves writing skills and the ability to construct coherent and relevant text.

3. Duration: The test is typically structured with an initial writing period (e.g., 5 minutes) followed by a shorter subsequent writing period (e.g., 3 minutes) based on the feedback or continuation of the initial response.

4. Interactive Operations:

- Candidates type their responses directly into the provided text box.

- After submitting the first response, candidates receive a follow-up prompt and continue writing.

5. Answering the Question:

- Candidates should write a response that addresses the initial prompt.

- The follow-up response should be a continuation or expansion based on the first response.

6. Suggestions:

- Use the full time allotted to plan, write, and review each response.

- Aim to demonstrate a range of vocabulary and sentence structures.

- Ensure that the writing is relevant and coherent, and check for spelling and grammar.

7. Scoring: The responses are evaluated based on the clarity, detail, and relevance of the written responses, as well as the candidate's use of English grammar, vocabulary, and overall coherence.

The "Interactive Writing" question type is designed to assess a candidate's ability to write and respond to prompts in a dynamic, interactive manner, reflecting their writing proficiency and ability to express ideas clearly and effectively in English.
