How often can I take the Duolingo English Test?
According to the information in the official exam guide, you can purchase up to 3 Duolingo English Tests within any 30-day period. This means you can take the test a maximum of three times within a month. However, purchasing an exam will give you "3 credits". This blog post provides a detailed overview of the number of exam purchases and how to make the most of each of the three credits from every purchase.

Duolingo English Test Purchase Limitations.
Candidates can purchase a maximum of 3 exams within any 30-day period. To ensure your purchase goes smoothly, please check the number of exams you’ve bought in the past 30 days beforehand.
After completing an exam, you must wait for the results to be released before taking the exam again. Note that the opportunities to take the purchased exams are time-sensitive.
You have 21 days from the date of purchase to take the test; after that, the exam opportunity will expire. For instance, if you buy an exam today, it will expire in 21 days.
If you opt for a package of 2 tests, the first test must be taken within 21 days of purchase, and the second test must be taken within 21 days of receiving the results of the first test.
In DET how to maximize the value of each exam purchase?
The term "3 credits" indicates that each purchased exam opportunity allows for three attempts. Given that the Duolingo test is conducted online, there are very strict certification requirements for online exams. Consequently, some candidates may face issues during the test due to factors like internet connectivity, computer equipment, or external conditions. These "3 credits" are meant to compensate for such situations. Once the exam has started, it counts as an attempt, regardless of whether it's completed, with a maximum of three attempts permitted.
After the exam begins, there will be three possible scenarios. Please refer to the table below.
Results Released |
Successfully certified and received scores. |
Not Submitted, Not Certified |
If the exam is not submitted due to network issues or if the candidate exits the exam voluntarily, this attempt can be made up to three times. |
Submitted but Not Certified: |
If the scores are uploaded and the exam submission results in "not certified," and the second submission also results in "not certified," the exam opportunity will be considered invalid. |
Candidates can use the 'Not Submitted, Not Certified' option to try for a higher score. If you feel the exam isn't going well, you can choose to withdraw. This allows you to use the next two credits to retake the exam.
If you have any questions about your score certification results, you can chat online with customer service or send an email through the official Duolingo English Test website.
